Rick Coplin ’85


Rick advises C-suite leaders, speaks internationally & consults with entrepreneurial companies and universities.

Rick’s background includes consulting with Fortune 500/100 companies in manufacturing, finance, marketing, and technology acquisition & deployment. Today, Rick advises executives in small (25-200 employees), rapidly growing companies as they transition from Founder to CEO.

Rick is a seasoned entrepreneur, having played a central role building & selling a start-up between 2001 and 2007.

Rick then invested eight years as VP, Community Partner Ventures with Rev1 Ventures, mentoring entrepreneurs and helping them to pitch their businesses, connect with essential resources, and raise funds to fuel growth. In addition, he worked closely with regional and local economic development professionals on entrepreneurial initiatives, including attraction/retention incentives for startups.

During this time, he was a leading figure in establishing and operating the Dublin Entrepreneurial Center (DEC) in Dublin, Ohio. The DEC is one of the largest and most successful entrepreneurial centers in the United States, housing over 140 companies. Rick also contributed to the conception and development of several entrepreneurial centers in the Central Ohio region.

Rick has assisted entrepreneurs with over 1,000 pitches, helping them to hone their message and delivery to attract customers, investors, partners, and employees. Rick is the author of “Pitch Your Best!” and “Pitch With Purpose: How to Start Your Venture, Secure Your Support, and Supercharge Your Dream.” He also has created the online video course, “Perfect Your Pitch.”

He also hosts the Success to Significance Podcast which focuses on individuals who have built successful careers and are seeking to leverage their expertise to impact our world in new ways.

Rick is a 1985 Denison graduate and his wife Kim have been married for 30 years and have three children, one a recent college graduate (Wooster), one a Junior at Denison, and a daughter in 9th grade. They reside in Granville, Ohio.
