Competition Schedule 2025

The competition will consist of four stages.

STAGE I

Submission of recordings presenting the candidate’s conducting skills.

Date: by September 31 of this year.

Number of participants: any.

Repertoire: Candidates should submit a link to a video recording presenting the participant’s conducting skills
(see specifications in No. 5 of the competition rules)

 

STAGE II

Audition with two pianos in the Szymanowski Hall at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw.

Date: 27.11.2025

Time: To be determined

Candidates will perform in alphabetical order

Repertoire:

Paul Hindemith — Symphony in B-flat, III. Fugue: Rather broad

Witold Lutosławski – Little Suite for Orchestra https://issuu.com/scoresondemand/docs/little_suite_7703

The score of the two piano versions used in this stage will be provided to all contestants advanced to the second stage.

 

STAGE III

Rehearsal with chamber wind ensemble in the Szymanowski Hall at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw.

Date: 28.11.2025

Time: To be determined

The performing order for Stage 3 will be announced following Stage 2.

Number of participants: maximum of 20.

Repertoire:

Mozart — Serenade in C minor, K.388/384a (Bärenreiter edition)

STAGE IV

Rehearsal with the Concert Wind Orchestra of the Representative Artistic Ensemble of the Polish Army in the Concert Hall at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw.

Date: 11.29.2025

Time: 3:30pm until 4:30pm

The performing order for Stage 4 will be announced following Stage 3.

Number of participants: maximum of 5.

Repertoire:

Lutosławski (arr. Westover-Muñoz) – Lacrimosa

Prize Winning Composition from the Feliksa Konopaska Wind Orchestra Composition Contest

Third piece — To be determined

NOTE: The score materials of the final stage will be sent to participants who pass the video preselection. Scores will be sent by email. The scores (used in the fourth stage of the competition) are the property of the Concert Orchestra of the Representative Artistic Ensemble of the Polish Army. It is forbidden to distribute these materials to outsiders.

GALA CONCERT

Final concert with the Concert Wind Orchestra of the Representative Artistic Ensemble of the Polish Army in the Concert Hall at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. The Gala Concert will conclude with a special performance by the combined Wind Orchestras of the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music and Denison University, conducted by Jarosław Ignaszak and Chris Westover-Muñoz.

Time: 7 pm

Award winners will be announced and invited to conduct the Concert Wind Orchestra of the Representative Artistic Ensemble of the Polish Army in a selection from Stage IV.
